Learn Spanish from inside the language.
Learn Spanish in Málaga with a writer who has been teaching the language for fifteen years — online lessons or a literary immersion week at my home in central Málaga.
One minute, in his own words.
A short hello from my home in Málaga — the easiest way to know if we’ll get along.
Choose how you want to spend the time.
Some students want a steady weekly rhythm from anywhere in the world. Others want to step into Spanish for a whole week and feel it under their skin. Both work — and both are taught with the same care.

From €900/person/week · all included
One week living and learning at my home in central Málaga. Fifteen hours of one-to-one classes, three meals a day, a private room, and literary walks through the old town with a writer who knows the city.
Spanish is not a software you install. It is a place you live in.
Most language schools teach Spanish like it’s a system to be cracked: rules, drills, exercises, exams. That works, up to a point. But it leaves you outside the language, looking in.
I teach from the other side. I’ve spent twenty-five years writing fiction, poetry and essays in Spanish. I’ve read more of it than I can remember. I notice how the language thinks, where it hesitates, what it does best. And I bring that into the lesson.
With me you don’t just learn the subjunctive. You learn what the subjunctive is for — what it lets you say that no other tense can.
We read short stories. We write postcards, microfiction, descriptions of streets in Málaga. We talk about Borges, Cortázar, Lorca — at the level you can manage today. The grammar comes in on its own, the way music theory follows from playing, not the other way around.
Augusto López.
I’m a Spanish writer based in Málaga, in the south of Spain. I’ve been teaching Spanish to international students for fifteen years, and for five of those years I was head of studies at a language school accredited by the Instituto Cervantes — the official authority on Spanish-language teaching worldwide.
I have published fifteen books — novels, poetry, essays, plays, haiku, screenplays — and I work as an editorial reader, copy editor and tutor at the University of Málaga’s Master’s in Literary Heritage Management. I also run creative writing workshops where, over the years, more than fifty student novels have been published.
What you get when we work together is all of that — the teacher’s clarity, the writer’s ear, the editor’s patience.
One-to-one, by video call.
Lessons are sixty minutes long, scheduled at a time that works for you. We meet on Zoom or Google Meet. You’ll get a written summary of each session and a small piece of homework — a short reading, a paragraph to write, a phrase to practise.
Single lessons are perfect to try; packs are better if you want to commit to real progress. Packs are paid in advance and used at your own rhythm.
Packs of 5 are valid for 3 months · packs of 10 for 6 months · packs of 20 for 9 months. The first lesson is always a free 20-minute conversation in Spanish (or English, if you prefer) so we can see whether we’re a good fit.
One week. My home. Your Spanish, alive.
You come to Málaga for a week. You stay in a private room at my home in Capuchinos, a historic, working-class neighbourhood in the city’s old centre, dating back to the seventeenth century. We have classes every morning, eat together, walk through the old town in the afternoon. By Friday, your Spanish has shifted in a way it never could from a screen.

Capuchinos, the real Málaga.
My home is in Capuchinos, a neighbourhood in Málaga’s central district that grew up in the seventeenth century around an old convent. It’s historic, residential and walkable — the authentic Málaga of street cafés and everyday life, a short walk from the old town and the Montes de Málaga. Not the tourist strip. Where people actually live.
What a week here actually looks like.
No two weeks are exactly alike — your level, your interests, the season all shape the rhythm. But the bones of the day tend to look something like this:
Breakfast
Coffee, toast with olive oil and tomato, fruit. Slow conversation — the day’s first Spanish.
Class
Three hours of one-to-one teaching at my desk: grammar, conversation, reading, writing. Built around what you need that day.
Lunch
Home-cooked. Salad, pasta or rice, fish, bread, fruit. We talk in Spanish — about the morning’s class, about Málaga, about whatever comes up.
Free time
The city is yours. Walk the old town, swim, sit in a café and read, take a nap. Twice a week we go out together — a literary walk, a bookshop, a museum, the cathedral.
Dinner
Lighter than lunch. Sometimes a short reading aloud after — a poem, a paragraph from a story we’ve been working on.
